#7 How to Transition to a Non-Clinical Career With Dr. Michelle Mudge-Riley

Most of us go through intense years of medical school, residency and training with one ultimate goal in mind - to become doctors. But what happens if, after all those years, you realize that becoming a doctor isn't your calling anymore? Are there options? Can you pursue something else and still be happy and fulfilled?

In today's episode, I speak with Dr. Michelle Mudge-Riley, a consultant, coach, and entrepreneur. She is the CEO and Founder of Physicians Helping Physicians LLC where she has spent the past 17 years assisting physicians and medical students with career strategy. Given that she was one of the early pioneers for physicians embarking on non-clinical careers, Dr. Mudge-Riley has helped hundreds of physicians with career transition and skills diversification. She explores some of the steps that can be taken to reduce our fears, address our mindset and expedite the process of finding a new calling. Some of the tactics she shares can be used to overcome the imposter syndrome, so you don't want to miss this episode!

In a nutshell, we talk about:

  • How Dr. Mudge-Riley created a non-clinical career for herself and some of the challenges she had to overcome.
  • Why it's okay to go the non-traditional route as a physician.
  • Getting out of your comfort zone and facing your fears.
  • Some of the paths that any doctor looking to go the non-clinical route can take.
  • Whether on not one can replace their income should they take the non-clinical route and some of the myths associated with it.
